Musket used by Charles Myrtengren of Company D. He was a harness maker in the Bishop Hill Colony and enlisted in September 1861. Corporal Myrtengren was killed at the Battle of Shiloh.
On April 14, 1865, while attending a play at Ford’s Theatre in Washington, D.C., President Lincoln was shot by Confederate sympathizer, John Wilkes Booth. Lincoln died the following day.
Major General John Logan fought in such major battles as the First Battle of Bull Run, Fort Donelson, and Vicksburg. He was Company D's Infantry Corps Commander during the Atlanta Campaign.
Company D was part of General Grant’s Army of the Tennessee at the battles of Fort Donelson and Shiloh.
